Green Drinks Comes To the Inland Empire
Environmental Awareness Organization Encourages Networking and Socializing amongst Eco-Enthusiasts
August 4, 2008 (Pomona, CA) – Two local companies are hosting “Green Drinks”, a networking and socializing event, on Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Hotel Indigo in Ontario, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is the first event for Green Drinks in the Inland Empire.
It seems these days people will use any excuse to talk about green issues, such as using organic fertilizer in the garden, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by driving less or reducing home heating bills by using insulation techniques. House building, coffee shops and grocery stores have all started ‘Going Green’ by using different methods. Today, you can’t walk into any grocery store without being offered a permanent grocery bag to use instead of the plastic ones that end up in our communities and oceans.
So, when Prachel Carter and LaValle Bullard visited a Green Drinks event in Los Angeles, they knew they wanted to bring it to the Inland Empire. Carter, who runs Soulstice Marketing, a marketing consulting firm, and Bullard who is the Head Instructor at South Hills BKF, a Martial Arts studio are always looking for new things to do. “Since we met at a Pomona Chamber of Commerce networking event, we thought it would be fun to host our own event. And, since we both are eco-conscious individuals, Green Drinks seemed perfect for us,” says Carter.
“We’re both in our 30’s, and oftentimes have to travel to LA to find entertaining, after-work events,” says Bullard. We knew we couldn’t continue to do that. So we thought, “why not just start something here?”
When you first hear the name “Green Drinks,” it sounds like a society for appletini lovers, green tea enthusiasts, or people who would rather every day was St. Patrick’s Day. Thankfully for everyone involved, it’s none of the above. Founded in London in 1989, the networking organization brings people together over drinks to talk about the environment and what they can do to help.
What started as a group of friends in a London pub 18 years ago has now snowballed into a massive international coalition: Green Drinks now has over 391 member cities. You’ll find Green Drinks groups everywhere from Warsaw to Cape Town, Boulder to Beijing, and now, the Inland Empire.
It’s a free and open event. Our goal is to create a community of green thinking people. We want to build a strong network of eco-conscious individuals, says Bullard. Carter explains, “I’d like to grow this organization so that our attendance numbers are in the triple digits by the second or third event. The more people talking about saving the environment, the more ideas flowing about sustainability, the more people will begin take action.”
